Frequently Asked Questions

  • I photograph couples, seniors, families, kiddos, branding and headshots! If you can dream it, I can shoot it.

  • I have SO many parents who feel like their children need to stand still, smile, and not move for an hour. They bribe them with a fun activity for after pictures.

I LOVE all my clients and they are trying to do their best! I am all about BRIBE's... but let's rework it. The FUN activity should be the Family Session! Hey, we get to go see Jen!

Remember she is funny? She runs around with you? She takes a few pictures, she plays some fun music? You get to have some candy during and after and she lets you use her camera?

I have been working with kids forever and pick up on their cues immediately. I know when we should switch it up with a piggy back ride, "let's go pick a flower", or "hey, can you help me move this rock?" I have one for every kid, every time. We want to keep the kids moving and engaged. The biggest misconception: I never want any little one saying "cheese." Most children can not form what we see as a correct smile until they are a bit older. So we want real joy on their little faces!

  • Quite a few photographers only shoot at Golden Hour, a specific time before sunset that creates a dreamy soft light.

However, there are many types of natural light that are beautiful, and I specialize in making the light we have work for our session. This is key for families since we usually have small children and evenings may not be available to us.

Harsh sunlight is not fun for small children so I (typically) do not schedule your session between 11am-2pm, but I have countless locations that offer shade should this time work best for you. We will discuss all these details when we chat so that I can guide the timing and session that best fits your needs and vision.

  • I will admit that I have been in this same situation... wanting to wait until feeling my best. For every five families I book, I hear this worry from a parent (both male and female).

There have been many studies on the emotional wellbeing of our kids today. In addition to higher confidence and self-esteem, family photos in the home help children develop their identity and sense of self. Even if you are feeling a little less than great about your appearance, please know that my main goal is for you to feel gorgeous. I have an effortless professional process that is designed to make you look like the best version of yourself - from easy-to-wear dresses and clothes for the entire family, hair and makeup recommendations, to polished posing while you interact with your family...all that will make the biggest difference.

  • Absolutely not! My job is to offer you any and all suggestions to make this process as easy as possible for you.

  • I do not like to book my clients back to back and always buffer in extra time, which means I'm only able to take on a limited amount of clients each month.

My suggestion is always the same: as soon as you know you want to be lifelong friends with me (!), go ahead and book with me. You can always change your session date if needed (see cancellation policy), but then you are on my calendar.

Weekend and fall months sell out months in advance, so l do recommend booking as early as possible so that you can get your specific time.

  • I do! Please follow me on Instagram to see when they are posted. Mini Sessions are held on specific days and at specific locations where families are photographed back to back. I will have my assistant with me to have the day run smoothly.

  • You will receive your gallery of high res images approximately 3 weeks after your session. You always have the option to add a rush fee, and I can send your images out to an editor instead of editing them myself. I always edit my sessions in order of photographing them.

  • Collaborative, honest, and FUN. I’m high energy (but also adaptive to my clients) and I love capturing the connection of my people.

BOOKING PROCESS

Once we have selected your session date and begun the booking process, you will receive an email through Pixieset containing:

• Your questionnaire
• Your contract
• Your invoice

All contracts, invoices, and payments are processed exclusively through my Pixieset booking system. No outside payment methods are accepted.

PAYMENT POLICY

Pixieset offers multiple secure payment options, including major credit and debit cards as well as additional digital payment methods available within the platform. Clients may choose the option most convenient for them.

A 50% non-refundable retainer is required within 12 hours of receiving your booking proposal to secure your session date.

The retainer secures your session date and time exclusively for you. Once reserved, that time is removed from availability and cannot be offered to other clients. Because of this, the retainer serves as a cancellation fee and is non-refundable.

The remaining balance is due 72 hours prior to your scheduled session and will be processed through Pixieset.

If a session is booked within 14 days of the scheduled date, payment is due in full at the time of booking.

Payment plans are available upon request and must be arranged in advance through Pixieset.

Failure to complete payment by the stated deadlines may result in cancellation of your session and forfeiture of the retainer.

Your session is not confirmed until both the signed contract and required payment have been completed through Pixieset.

MINI SESSIONS

Mini Sessions are booked exclusively through the designated Pixieset booking link.

• Payment is due in full at the time of booking.
• Mini Sessions are non-refundable.
• Mini Sessions cannot be rescheduled.

Due to the limited and high-demand nature of Mini Sessions, your time slot is reserved exclusively for you and removed from availability for other clients.

Mini Sessions may be gifted.

A signed contract must be completed through Pixieset at booking.

CANCELLATION, RESCHEDULING & ILLNESS POLICY

I understand that life happens. However, your session date is reserved exclusively for you and removed from availability for other clients.

Standard Rescheduling (Non-Emergency)

• A minimum of 5 days written notice is required to reschedule a session.
• One reschedule is permitted as a courtesy with proper notice.
• Additional reschedule requests will require a new retainer.

If proper notice is not given, the retainer is forfeited.

If a session is canceled without rescheduling, the retainer is forfeited.

Last-minute cancellations result in lost booking opportunities and are non-refundable.

Illness Policy (Important for Newborn & Family Safety)

Because I photograph newborns, births, and families, health and safety are taken seriously.

If anyone in your household is experiencing:

• Fever
• Flu-like symptoms
• Vomiting
• Respiratory illness
• COVID symptoms
• Or exposure to a known contagious illness within 48 hours of your session

You must notify me immediately.

In these situations, your session will be rescheduled to protect all parties.

Rescheduling due to illness or true emergencies will be handled with understanding and flexibility.

Birth Sessions

Birth photography operates under a separate Birth Photography Agreement due to the unpredictable nature of labor.

TARDINESS

Please plan to arrive 10–15 minutes early.

Late arrival may result in:

• A shortened session
• A late fee
• Or the need to reschedule

Details are outlined in your signed contract.

IMAGE RIGHTS & EDITING

Final delivered images may not be altered, filtered, color-adjusted, retouched, or edited in any way.

The only modification permitted is cropping for personal printing or social media formatting.

No presets, filters, brightness adjustments, or additional edits may be applied.

My editing style is intentional and consistent with my brand.

I do not perform body reshaping or alteration. Standard retouching includes skin refinement, color correction, and minor distractions while preserving natural features.

You will always look like yourself.

PRINTING PROCESS

There are many online printing options available; however, not all labs meet professional archival standards.

While you are not required to order prints through my professional lab, I strongly recommend doing so to ensure accurate color, longevity, and overall quality.

When ordering through your Pixieset gallery:

• I personally review your selected images
• Make any necessary refinements
• Prepare each file specifically for the size and format requested

This ensures the highest possible print quality.

By completing your booking through Pixieset, including signing your contract and submitting payment, you acknowledge that you have read and agree to all policies listed above.
